There is a War in Yemen

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, who was gunned down by his own countrymen (CIA and FBI) on this day 49 years ago.

There is a war.

It will not stop once

you flip the channel or

change your mind.

There is a war.

There are munitions

in hospital basements,

Collected like cadavers

in a forgotten morgue.

There is a war.

Children are gasping for

the meat of mosquitoes.

There is a war.

Babies feel the bone edge

of their rib cage

pierce through

their tanned skin,

spongy and core-less

like dry injera

There is a war.

When you go home to your

shower and your table.

When you stroll

along the promenade

When you stop

to watch the day glide by.

There is a war.

There is a war.

There is a war.
