A Fishbowl Discussion

A fishbowl discussion is a tool that can be utilized in organizing spaces to highlight an agenda or voice. There are two concentric circles, with the inner circle holding the power of discussion, and the outer circle listening sincerely, like listening to a panel discussion.

The outer circle can pass notes or questions to the inner circle, but it’s up to the inner circle’s discretion. Various voices and agendas that are normally marginalized and silenced in our society can be heard with this sort of meeting method: women/gender queer fishbowl, working class fishbowl, trans fishbowl, etc.  (Earth First: The Journal of Ecological Resistance, Spring 2013)
